The Womxn Project on the first day of the Rhode Island Legislative Session - Freedom Forward!
“Bodily freedom includes the right to reproductive freedom, which includes gender-affirming care. This session, we will advocate for and activate around this democratic necessity.”
On January 7th, The Womxn Project was at the Rhode Island State House for a quick “artivism” installation and speaking program on how so many organizations will be present and advocating for the protection of so many Rhode Islanders on this first day of the session.
The Womxn Project 501(c)4 and The Womxn Project Education Fund 501(c)3 are sibling nonprofits collaborating to promote bodily freedom in Rhode Island. This Freedom Forward event acknowledges The Womxn Project’s policy and lobbying work, with the "artivism" and education done by The Womxn Project Education Fund.
With the upcoming presidential administration, our organizations intend to unite with other Rhode Island nonprofits to defend against anticipated federal and local opposition. With this, the event will have speakers from The Womxn Project and The Womxn Project Education Fund, Economic Progress Institute, Youth Pride, The Conference of Churches, Coyote RI, BLM RI PAC, Pride in Aging, Rhode Island Atheists, and PVD House.
Here’s Jocelyn Foye, executive director of The Womxn Project and The Womxn Project Education Fund:
“My organizations work together to blend grassroots art and activism with policy, aiming to advance reproductive rights and LGBTQIA+ protections.
“Today marks the first day of Rhode Island’s 2025 Legislative Session, and we stand in front of the seat of power, the Rhode Island State House.
“Collectively, we are calling for our local and State lawmakers to keep the tenants of people’s bodily freedom front and center as we move forward this session.
“The concept of freedom has often been exploited throughout history with an ongoing struggle to protect and expand it.
“We call on this 2025 General Assembly to keep all Rhode Islanders’ intersectional freedoms front and center in their judgments with a framework of equity and access for all.
“Bodily freedom includes the right to reproductive freedom, which includes gender-affirming care. This session, we will advocate for and activate around this democratic necessity.”
Any society that works to prohibit anyone from being their best self is doomed to fail. Which is why the USA is going down the tubes.
